Doubling donations for the Women’s Legal Centre ACT- let’s raise $20,000 together
At Parker Coles Curtis, we believe access to legal support should never depend on someone’s financial position, safety, or ability to navigate crisis alone.
That is why, each year, we proudly support the incredible work of the Women’s Legal Centre ACT by doubling community donations during the End of Financial Year campaign — matching donations dollar-for-dollar up to $10,000.
This means together, as a community, we have the opportunity to raise an incredible $20,000 to support vulnerable women across Canberra and the surrounding region.
As the EOFY approaches, we invite our community, colleagues, clients, and supporters to stand beside us once again and help ensure women can continue accessing the legal support they desperately need. Donations made before 30 June are tax deductible and every contribution, no matter the size, makes a genuine difference.
The reality is that for many women, reaching out for legal help happens during one of the most frightening and overwhelming periods of their lives. It may be after escaping domestic violence, facing workplace bullying or discrimination, navigating complex family law matters, dealing with migration concerns, or trying to rebuild after financial abuse and coercive control.
For women already in crisis, the cost of legal representation can feel completely out of reach.
That is where the Women’s Legal Centre ACT steps in.
The Centre provides free legal advice, representation, advocacy, education and support to women, trans and gender diverse people across the ACT and surrounding region. Their work spans family law, domestic violence, employment law, discrimination, migration matters, sexual violence support, and workplace rights. They also provide social work support and culturally safe services for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women through programs like Mulleun Mura.
Importantly, the Women’s Legal Centre supports many women who simply could not otherwise afford legal assistance.
Many of their clients have little or no access to money while escaping violence or controlling relationships. Others are navigating unsafe workplaces, migration uncertainty, discrimination, or traumatic family situations entirely on their own.
Demand for their services continues to rise dramatically, while community legal centres across Australia remain under immense funding pressure.
Yet despite this, the Women’s Legal Centre continues to change lives every single day.
Their impact is perhaps best reflected through the voices of the women they support:
“I finally feel secure and independent and no one can use my temporary status to control or blackmail me anymore. It gave me peace of mind, emotional strength, and the freedom to focus on my future without fear.”
— Migration law client
“I did not simply regain my confidence, but I also regained my faith in humanity.”
— Family law client
“It gives me hope for other women who have dealt with or are dealing with these types of issues in their workplaces.”
— Employment law client
“Dramatic improvement in the quality of life for myself and my daughter. They were absolutely incredible and supportive. Could not be happier with the outcome, and our futures are brighter because of them.”
— Domestic violence client
“The Women's Legal Centre helped me overcome being afraid to speak up about how I was treated at work. I had the courage to make a case and get the help needed… I now have the courage to tell myself this isn't acceptable and that I shouldn't be treated badly.”
— Employment law client
These stories are powerful reminders that legal assistance is about so much more than paperwork or courtrooms.
It is about safety.
It is about dignity.
It is about giving women the confidence to rebuild their lives.
As a female-led family law firm, the team at Parker Coles Curtis sees firsthand the devastating impact that domestic violence, financial abuse, coercive control, workplace discrimination, and legal disadvantage can have on women and children.
We also see the extraordinary transformation that can occur when women are properly supported, empowered, and given access to the right advice at the right time.
That is why supporting the Women’s Legal Centre is so important to us.
This is more than a fundraiser. It is a community coming together to ensure vulnerable women are not left without support simply because they cannot afford it.
Every donation helps fund vital legal services, representation, legal disbursements, advocacy, and support for women who need it most.
This EOFY, we encourage our Canberra community to stand with us once again.
Together, let’s raise $20,000 for the Women’s Legal Centre ACT.
Together, we can help women feel safer, stronger, heard, and supported.
Together, we can make sure no woman has to face these challenges alone.
